The goal for Beyond Books Web blog is to connect my future students and families with Literacy resources while at the same time seeking out connections to the home literacies my future students use.  My vision for this blog is a place for discussions of texts read inside school and outside of school. I will keep a log of book reviews for students and parents to refer to when selecting texts. The aim will be for students to use resources from this blog to use for Project Based Learning experiences.  I want this blog to be based in current research and theory, along with representing the many different backgrounds of the future students I will teach.

Professionally, I have eleven years of experience in education.  I have worked in secondary Special Education all throughout my teaching career.  I graduated from The University of North Texas in Denton, TX in 2001. I am currently enrolled at Texas State University working on a Masters in Reading Instruction to become a Reading Specialist. I anticipate completion of the program in May, 2018.  My goal is to return to the classroom to become a Middle School Reading teacher in the Fall of 2017.

Personally, I live in Round Rock, Texas with my husband. We have 4-year-old twins a daughter and son. I left teaching when my kids were born, and have cherished staying home with them for the past 4 years. I am excited to return to teaching and put into action the new Literacy learning I have discovered in the past two years.  As a family, we enjoying being outside and going to parks or hiking. We will take any excuse for a road trip to find a new adventure.
